Job Purpose

The Medical Affairs Director for Spain leads the Medical Affairs strategy across multiple therapeutic areas including Cardiology/Urology, Gastroenterology, Psychiatry and OTC. The role provides strategic and operational leadership to Medical Advisors and Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs), ensuring scientific excellence, cross-functional collaboration and alignment with business objectives.

 

Reporting to the General Manager and serving on the Country Leadership Team, the position contributes to the company’s strategic direction and business priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Define and execute the Medical Affairs strategy across all assigned therapeutic areas.
  • Align medical plans with corporate objectives and business priorities
  • Identify emerging scientific trends, unmet medical needs and opportunities to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Contribute to strategic decision-making and organizational growth as a member of the leadership team.
  • Advise senior leadership on medical, scientific and healthcare environment matters.

 

Team Leadership & People Development

  • Lead, coach and develop a national team of Medical Advisors and MSLs.
  • Foster a culture of trust, accountability, autonomy and continuous development.
  • Drive career development, succession planning and talent growth.
  • Promote collaboration, innovation and knowledge sharing.

 

Scientific & Medical Excellence

  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality scientific engagement with healthcare professionals, scientific societies and key stakeholders.
  • Oversee the development and execution of medical education initiatives, advisory boards, investigator-sponsored studies and evidence-generation activities.
  • Maintain the highest standards of scientific integrity, compliance and focus on patient.
  • Provide strategic medical input into product lifecycle management and launch activities.
  • Support effective deployments of the MSLs and the use of technology for insights collection and analysis

 

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Commercial, Compliance, RA, PV and Corporate teams to ensure integrated execution of strategic priorities.
  • Serve as the medical representative in cross-functional projects and external scientific forums.
  • Support the development of customer-centric solutions through strong internal and external collaboration.

 

External Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Key Opinion Leaders, scientific societies, patient organizations and healthcare institutions.
  • Represent the company at national and international congresses, scientific meetings and industry events.
  • Ensure the organization remains recognized as a trusted scientific partner within the healthcare community.

Required Education

  • Advanced scientific degree in Medicine or Pharmacy (MD, PharmD or PhD)

Required Skills and Experience

  • Extensive leadership experience in Medical Affairs within the pharmaceutical industry (multiple therapeutic areas is highly desirable)
  • Strong understanding of the pharmaceutical environment, compliance requirements and healthcare systems in Spain.
  • Experience interacting with regional and global stakeholders is highly valued.
  • Experience in change management and in working in a highly dynamic environment.
